A Father's Legacy

6 May 2007   BELIEFS THAT MATTER 

What you believe and who you believe  will determine your character and conduct as well as your duty and destiny.

We may be sincere but also sincerely wrong like doctor giving wrong medicine. Human character / inner character cannot be changed by positive thinking. We can see the lives of Cain and Abel, Joseph, Judas.

Parents love their children and children honour parents. Love your spouse and Teach your children.

Without believing the word of God- man dwell in darkness. Heaven and Earth will pass away but my word will remain Word of God remove confusions because God is order and not confusions.

Psalms 119

¹Blessed^£ are they whose ways are blameless,

who walk according to the law of the LORD.

²Blessed are they who keep his statutes

and seek him with all their heart.

³They do nothing wrong;

they walk in his ways.

⁴You have laid down precepts

that are to be fully obeyed.

⁵Oh, that my ways were steadfast

in obeying your decrees!

⁶Then I would not be put to shame

when I consider all your commands.

⁷I will praise you with an upright heart

as I learn your righteous laws.

⁸I will obey your decrees;

do not utterly forsake me.

⁹How can a young man keep his way pure?

By living according to your word.

¹⁰I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands.

¹¹I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

¹²Praise be to you, O LORD;

teach me your decrees.

¹³With my lips I recount

all the laws that come from your mouth.

¹⁴I rejoice in following your statutes

as one rejoices in great riches.

¹⁵I meditate on your precepts

and consider your ways.

¹⁶I delight in your decrees;

I will not neglect your word.

Pastor Tommy Pacatang preach on  Father’s responsibility and gave a vivid account of his personal struggle and sharing of the challenges along this journey.

If life is uphill be thankful but when it is downhill and easy be wary.

How to find respect and honour at home. We need to develop a culture of humility.

Father make your children proud and children make your father proud. Fathership is the job of the both the parents. When children misbehave and miss their steps, parents must  accept responsibility and avoid finger pointing and the blame game. We need to balance the whip of discipline with the whip of anger which will do injustice to the children.

Children replace parents

There are certain desirable qualities appreciated by children based on survey of elementary children:

1. He takes time for me
2. He listens to me
3. He plays with me
4. He goes places with me
5. He lets me help him
6. He treats my mother well
7. He  let me say what we think
8. He is nice to my friends
9. He only punishes me when I deserve it
10. He admit he is wrong

 Husband love your wife (3times) and woman respect / submit to your husband.

 A man’s role as spiritual leader –- and have 3 specific functions:

 -Prophet- With back to God and speaks to the people what the Lord desires

-Priest- With back to people- facing and seeking/ praying and asking God

-King- To lead, To protect and to provide and taking responsibility

 MYTHS

1.  To succeed means to have a dynamic career.

2.  I  am doing this for my family

3.  Money can solve our problems

 Children spell LOVE as T-I-M-E
