Building a Strong Family : Building a Strong House

Pastor Tommy Pacatang

Introduction:

Who among you here has tried drawing a house? When you are small, how do you draw a house?

However, when you construct a real house, do you begin with the roof?

Family on earth is ordained by God to be a foretaste of Heaven and not a foretaste of hell.

Husband and wife should sing a family song in a DUET and not in a DUEL.

Again, Building a Strong Family is just like Building a Strong House

The PLAN God’s Plan

(Jer. 29:11)

God has the best plan for you.  You are the  apple of His eyes!

The FOUNDATION:  Faith in Jesus Christ

 (1 Cor. 3:11)

F-A-I-T-H is Forsaking All I Take Him. Faith is believing that Jesus was born for us, died for all our sins and resurrected to give us new life and new hope.

Both husband and wife should have Jesus in their hearts.  The children should have Jesus in their lives.  Jesus should be the cornerstone.

1st  Wall: The wall of COMMITMENT

(Gen. 2:24, Heb. 13:5)

  • Till DEBT do us part.
  • To my one and only Valentine Card
  • Three myths that make parents/family miserable:

Myth #1: To succeed means to have a dynamic career.

Truth is: Work alone cannot produce a success that matters. (Eccl 2:4-11)

Myth #2: “I’m doing this for my family.

Truth is: What our family really wants is more of us.

Myth #3: Money will solve my problems.

Truth is: Once we earn above a certain level, money creates more problems than it solves. (Ecclesiastes 5:10-12)

  • Prioritize everything you do based on who will be crying at your funeral.

The Emotional Bank Account of your wife.

    1. Spend time with her alone.
    2. Listen to her deeply.
    3. Touch her.
    4. Accept her Unconditionally.
    5. Be committed to her.
    6. Encourage her with words.
    7. Take care of her finances.
    8. Laugh with her.
    9. After God, but before all others, make her your top priority.
    10. Be her best friend.

THE BIG IDEA: NO AMOUNT OF SUCCESS AT WORK CAN COMPENSATE FOR FAILURE AT HOME.

2nd Wall: The wall of COMMUNICATION (Prov. 18:13)

 With your children:

  • Spend TIME with your children.
  • If you don’t have time for your children you can be 100% certain you are not following God’s will for your life.
  • Encourage them with words.
  • Regularly tell your children “I love you!” and “I’m proud of you!”
  • Pray for them regularly.

With your wife: refer to the emotional bank account

3rd Wall: The wall of LOVE

(1 Cor. 13)

4th Wall: The wall of FORGIVENESS

(Col. 3:13)

The ROOF: GRACE OF GOD

(Eph. 3:20, Eph. 2:8)

Grace means unmerited favor.   The Grace and Mercy of God always go together.

Grace of God: Means that God gives us the things that we don’t deserve. God gives us our salvation.

Mercy of God: Means that God does not give us the things that we deserve.

YOUR family is at the center of God’s plan!   The enemy wants to destroy your family by shooting fiery arrows towards you.
